What ages do you serve?
We serve children aged 4 to 11 years old. Additionally, we plan to serve learners aged 11-18 years old in the near future. Explore Our Studios.
How long is Masterpiece in session each year?
We will operate on a ten month calendar (August to May).
Is Masterpiece a Montessori school?
We are a Montessori-inspired school. In a traditional Montessori school, the Montessori method is the primary method of teaching and learning. At Masterpiece, the Montessori method is one of the many tools in our toolkits. We also incorporate the latest online adaptive technologies, hands-on projects, and the Socratic Method to hone in critical thinking.
Is Masterpiece accredited?
Yes, we are accredited by the International Association of Learner-Driven Schools.
Can you elaborate on the faith-based aspect of the school?
Our school is built on Christian principles and beliefs, and we welcome families of all faiths and backgrounds. Ephesians 2:10 states, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” This verse embodies how we view each child: a masterpiece created by God with unique gifts and talents who deserves to embark on a Hero’s Journey to discover his/her special purpose. We believe Christ came not to be served but to serve (Matthew 20:28). Therefore, we emphasize servant leadership and celebrate character milestones through Servant Leader Badges. We strive for each child to experience the rewards of hard work but also be a part of something bigger than themselves and to fulfill a significant need in the world. We do not utilize a dogmatic approach to teach Christianity but rather embed Christian principles and beliefs into our systems and learning design.
Will children be grouped into grades?
We believe that children learn best when working with children younger and older than themselves rather than split up into groups based solely on age. In addition to individualized curriculum, learners of all ages work together in groups.
What do you mean by "every child can change the world"?
We believe children have the opportunity to use their God-given talents to serve others and fulfill a need they are passionate about in the world. This may be by becoming a coach who guides children to pursue their dreams; it may be by becoming a parent who leads a family on a Hero’s Journey; it may be by becoming an entrepreneur or a healthcare provider guided by compassion and integrity; or it may be by becoming an artist or writer who brings beauty to people’s lives.
What is an "independent learner"?
Someone who can research questions, follow instructions, solve problems—admit that they don't know something and figure out a solution when they hit a roadblock without asking an adult for help—participate in discussions, and strive for mastery.
Do you serve children with special needs or learning disabilities?
Unfortunately, we are not trained or staffed to serve children with learning disabilities, special needs, or who need specialized attention.
Are you part of a chain or franchise?
We are not a franchise or chain. Masterpiece is an independent school, part of an affiliate network that finds its inspiration and receives mentorship from the founding Acton Academy in Austin and other affiliate schools. Our network of affiliates are passionate about revolutionizing education, pursuing best practices, and have agreed to protect a learner-driven environment. Affiliates follow their own methods in keeping with these commitments and vary based on the leadership at each school and community they serve.
